Finance Watch supports the call to protect consumers’ right to choose digital or print communications

10 February 2025

Joint statement

As retail financial services become increasingly digitised, Finance Watch remains committed to protecting the vulnerable from financial exclusion.

Upholding this commitment, the organisation is pleased to support the Keep Me Posted initiative. Backed by Members of the European Parliament, civil society organizations and individuals, Keep Me Posted advocates every individual’s right to choose how they receive essential communications.

The right to access financial and essential communications in one’s preferred format – digital or print – is a matter of fairness, inclusion, and accessibility. To ensure a more inclusive Europe, Finance Watch stands behind the key objectives of the campaign:

  1. Defend consumer choice, ensuring every EU citizen has the right to receive essential communications (including from financial institutions) in their preferred format – digital or print
  2. Preserve physical communication, treating physical and digital communications equally, without extra charges or penalties for choosing paper
  3. Support vulnerable groups, guaranteeing equitable access to vital information for individuals at risk of exclusion

The Keep Me Posted campaign highlights the risks of a one-size-fits-all digital approach, particularly for older adults, rural communities, and those with limited digital access. Their recent report, “Why Choice Matters – A Report on the Marginalization of Diverse Groups in Europe and the Importance of Their Right to Choose How They Receive Information,” explores these challenges in depth.
